Edward Miller was born outside Chicago and educated at the Fessenden School, St. Mark’s School, and the University of Pennsylvania, both as an undergraduate at the College of Arts and Sciences (History), and as a graduate student at the Wharton School (Finance).

He joined Smith Barney’s Corporate Finance Department in 1968 and remained at the firm for 35 years. He retired as co-CEO of Schroders Salomon Smith Barney and moved from London with his wife Monina von Opel to their house in Chilmark…became residents…and installed central heating. Following up on a lifelong interest in architecture, he took a number of courses at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design…starting with Career Discovery.

Edward produced the acclaimed off-Broadway production of the South African play, POPPIE NONGENA in the early 1980’s, which won an OBIE in New York and the Lawrence Olivier Award in London. He served ten years as a Trustee of St. Mark’s School. He served 16 years on the Board of MV Hospital where he Chaired its Finance Committee and its Compliance Committee.  He remains as Chair of its Permanent Art Collection. He helped raise the funds to Save the Gay Head Lighthouse, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival. Edward serves as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee.

He and his wife, Monina, have five grown children and six grandchildren between them. In his spare time, Edward sails his Herreshoff 12 ½ ‘Crow Dancer’ in the Menemsha Pond Races, plays golf, and enjoys theatre, film, opera, contemporary art…and his beloved Chicago Blackhawks.
