Cindy Doyle

Board Member

Cindy graduated from Boston University in 1969 as an art history major and then attended Salve Regina University in Newport, RI where she earned a graduate degree in Holistic Counseling.  She married in 1969 and lived in Providence, RI for 32 years where she was a wife, mother of two daughters, and worked as a Head Start teacher, children’s librarian, independent school development director, assistant to an architect, and mental health counselor in private practice.

Since moving to the Island in 2000, she has spent her time volunteering for nonprofit organizations including developing and chairing the Board of the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard and founding and chairing the Board of the Youth Task Force, a youth substance abuse prevention organization. She is currently a member of the Dukes County Health Council and serving on the Boards of the Martha’s Vineyard Nonprofit Collaborative, MV Youth, Chairing and serving on the Board of Healthy Aging MV, and as a Trustee of her family’s foundation.

Cindy’s interest in joining the MV Community Foundation is in its broad impact on the Island-wide community. A recent study by the Martha’s Vineyard Commission found that the cost of living on the Island is 60% higher than the national average, and housing prices are 96% higher. These costs create enormous challenges for so many who live year round on the Island. The Island would come to a standstill without the breadth and depth of services and volunteers the over 300 Martha’s Vineyard nonprofits provide. In addition to granting college scholarships to Island youth, the MV Community Foundation provides essential resources and support to the Island’s nonprofit organizations that keep the Island afloat.

Cindy is the mother of two daughters and the grandmother of one granddaughter.  She lives with her husband Rob in Chilmark.
