Board of Directors
Carol Biondi
Board Member
Carol and Frank Biondi and their two young daughters Anne and Jane first vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard in the summer of 1983 at the suggestion of their next-door neighbors in Riverdale, New York. After spending summers in Chilmark for several years, they moved into a new home they built in Edgartown in 1997, the same year they moved to Los Angeles and have been bi-coastal since. Glorious summers are now spent in Katama with Anne and Jane, their husbands and five granddaughters and one grandson.
After a career in communications as a television producer/journalist in documentary films for Public Television and the ABC Network, Carol joined the board of New York City’s largest child welfare agency, Leake and Watts, now known as Rising Ground. Thus began a lifelong commitment to children who are caught up in the Foster Care and Probation or Juvenile Justice systems. Carol has served on the Children’s Defense Fund Board for over 25 years and many other organizations serving these populations. In California she has been appointed by every elected Governor since 2006 to the State Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and has served on the LA County Commission for Children and Families since 1999.
Both Carol and Frank have served on the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Board, in different decades. Frank Co-Chaired the Capital Campaign to raise the funds for the New Hospital. They were among the original supporters of MVYouth.
“Over the years we have supported many wonderful organizations on the Vineyard. The Vineyard is our favorite place to be and has provided our family with our best memories. Until recently, I have not had time to get more involved with other organizations, but after I read the most recent Annual Report of the Community Foundation, I realized this is the only local organization that covers every area that needs taking care of on this Island today and in the future. It is also structured to do this quickly when needed, dynamically and creatively, and can do it all. I am excited to help it grow so that it will be able to do even more.”
