Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation Announces $375,000 in Scholarships Awarded in the 2025 Annual Scholarship Cycle
May. 15, 2025
We are proud to announce the outcome of our 2025 annual scholarship cycle, with an historic total of $375,000 being awarded to support the educational pursuits of 126 talented Islanders.
Executive Director Paul Schulz states that “With this scholarship cycle, we are thrilled to have achieved two historic firsts: the largest amount of funding made available and the highest number of award winners. The scholarship program will always be a critical part of how we support Islanders.”
Since its inception in 1982, we have supported more than 2,200 individuals, providing more than $5.5 Million in scholarships to help students pursue their dreams. The scholarships are made possible through 29 separate funds that we manage. The funds — established by Island community members, including educators, healthcare professionals, activists, musicians, and philanthropists — ensure that local students can access educational opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. This year’s awards continue this legacy of support.
We are committed to supporting Island students through every step of their academic paths. That scope encompasses graduating high school seniors, current college students, graduate students, individuals returning to college after a gap, and those seeking professional development or workforce certification. We saw a significant increase in applications from people pursuing certificates or returning to school after time taken to work, clarify goals, or raise families, and many of them are receiving awards to continue their education. In this cycle, 45% of our awards are being made to students in college.
This year’s awardees hold diverse interests and aspirations in fields such as environmental science and policy, building trades, mental health counseling, education, aviation, maritime engineering, law enforcement, financial services, and more. A significant number of applicants plan to pursue careers in medicine and health care, particularly nursing.
The Board, Staff, and our external review committees congratulate all of the scholarship winners!
