Pictured above is 2020 Grant Recipient Garden Gate Child Development Center. One example of Garden Gate’s creativity in meeting social distancing requirements, was to build a new off-campus classroom at Featherstone Center for the Arts, providing space for the preschool children and rental income for Featherstone, which was closed at that time. Through Community Grants of up to $10,000 and Impact Grants of up to $25,000, we are proud to help the Island community meet long-standing needs and create systemic change. Awarding grants to Vineyard non-profits has been at the core of our mission since 1982.

Grantmaking at the Community Foundation is a thoughtful process. It involves carefully assessing community needs, understanding existing programs, identifying gaps in service, and evaluating nonprofit management to provide the most effect supportive for local nonprofit organizations.

Our grant making priorities are guided not only by the knowledge of our Board but also by the charitable intention of our donors. We support organizations with a well-planned approach to issues and needs, a demonstrated base of support, capable leadership and the involvement of individuals with the skills necessary to carry out the work.
