Jim Weiss came to Martha’s Vineyard in 2005 to become the Superintendent of the Vineyard’s public schools, a position he held until his retirement in 2015. He had previously been a teacher and administrator in Connecticut and served as Superintendent of Schools for the Sanborn Regional School District and School Administrative Unit # 21, both in New Hampshire.
Since arriving on the Vineyard, Jim has served as a board member of the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard, a member of the Dukes County Health Council and of the Youth Task Force. He was the president of the Cape Cod Community College’s Graduate Board for several years and a board member of the Cape Cod Municipal Health Group. He presently serves as a trustee of the Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation and as a member of the MV Youth Advisory Board.
Jim grew up in Connecticut and graduated from the Northfield-Mt Hermon School and Colgate University. He holds advanced degrees from the University of Hartford, the University of Connecticut and the University of Bridgeport. He resides in Oak Bluffs and in retirement, he loves to kayak, sit on State Beach reading mysteries and travel. He has one grown son, Joel, who lives in New Hampshire with his wife Nicole.
