Founded in 1982 as the Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard, and now renamed the Martha’s Vineyard Community Foundation, we are dedicated to enhancing and preserving the quality of life on Martha’s Vineyard forever. The Foundation’s purpose is to put philanthropic contributions to work for the people of Martha’s Vineyard by making grants that address community priorities, funding scholarships for Island students, and building a significant endowment that will serve as a resource for the Island in perpetuity.
Since 1982, the Foundation has grown from $60,000 to over $16 million in philanthropic assets under management. We have provided over $6 million in grant funding to more than 210 island nonprofit organizations and awarded over $3.8 million in academic scholarships to both Vineyard-based high school seniors and currently enrolled Island college students engaged in academic programs across the country.
The Foundation works closely with donors who care about Martha’s Vineyard on a variety of customized gift opportunities, donor advised and donor designated funds, bequests, and specific field of interest funds, all having lasting impact on this special community.
